R.I.P. to All the Conversations That Died After You Told Them Your Prices! (Yawn!)
You build up a little rapport and then you talk prices and ….. tumble weed ;) ha!
Let them rest in peace. Because, frankly, those aren’t your clients—they’re just bargain hunters on a wild goose chase. If someone vanishes faster than a cup of tea on a Monday morning after hearing your price, they were never truly invested in solving their problem. They were merely curious to see how cheaply they could get away with it.
Your genuine clients? They don’t bat an eyelid at your quote. Instead, they’re likely to ask, "When can you start?" Because they understand the true value of the service you offer, whether its a pristine workspace, a contractor who dots the i’s and crosses the t’s, or a handover so spotless it could be featured in a magazine. They know that quality pays for itself in the long run.
So whatever your industry. Do not undersell yourself.
Stop wasting your breath explaining your value to the wrong crowd. Start showcasing your value to the right ones. Remember, you’re not just “expensive”; you’re an investment.
You’re experienced, having navigated the trenches and emerged victorious.
You’re trained, armed with the knowledge and skills to tackle any challenge.
You’re compliant, ensuring everything is above board and by the book.
You’re reliable, offering a service that stands the test of time.
You’re efficient, delivering results without unnecessary delays or fuss.
You’re innovative, always seeking better ways to achieve outstanding outcomes.
You have done your homework, prepared, researched and organised.
You have subscriptions and packages and insurances to pay for.
You have spent money to get where you are today!
You’re the peace of mind that comes at a premium because it’s worth its weight in gold. It’s about avoiding costly mistakes, ensuring compliance, and achieving results that exceed expectations.
I learnt the hard way!
When I first started out I wasn’t charging much, which to be honest worked fairly well at first as it helped build up my portfolio and confidence. But even back then I felt I had to explain my prices. Most people wouldn’t work hours and days or even weeks for under £100! I no longer explain myself and nor should you :)
Don’t get me wrong, I had to experience a lot before I felt brave enough to take the leap into knowing my self worth. I learnt to value my time. My time is precious and if people want it, they need to pay for it.
I increased my prices to reflect the time it takes to create something beautiful for my clients.
It’s taken me YEARS to get to this point and even now I have my little moments of self doubt and imposter syndrome. But after a few days of thinking about it, talking to other people in my industry and look at how happy my clients are, I overcome it again! We aren’t machines! We are human with feelings but we also know how bloody good we are!!!!!
